Per the team’s injury report, he was out for San Antonio’s regular-season finale against the Detroit Pistons with a right ankle injury.
In his debut season, the rookie star has been limited to 30 minutes per game, though there had been some flexibility depending on the situation by the coaching staff.
Wembanyama wrapped up his historic rookie season, possibly securing Rookie of the Year, while also nabbing an All-Defense selection. He shared some thoughts on his first NBA season,
“I would say that I am currently at 15% between my first NBA game and what I hope will be my prime.”
The 20-year-old Wemby rookie season ended with an average of 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and a league-leading 3.6 blocks per game in 71 starts.
He just became the fourth player, and the first rookie, to finish a season with at least 1,500 points, 250 assists, and 250 blocked shots.
The Spurs ended this season with a bit of disappointment and finished with one of the worst records in the Western Conference.
Wembanyama ended his rookie campaign and will not be playing until next season, but expected to be part of the French roster for the Paris Olympics this summer.
