Tommy Pham, the seasoned free-agent outfielder whose impactful performances led the Arizona Diamondbacks to the 2023 World Series, is on the verge of securing a new opportunity in Major League Baseball.
Sources close to the negotiations have revealed that Pham is nearing an agreement with the injury-plagued Chicago White Sox on a minor-league contract.
This deal will enable the White Sox to manage Pham’s placement without risking his passage through waivers, allowing them to promote him when deemed ready.

The White Sox have been grappling with a string of injuries to key players since the start of the season. Designated hitter Eloy Jiménez and center fielder Luis Robert Jr. have both been sidelined due to injuries, while third baseman Yoan Moncada recently suffered a setback with a left adductor strain.
Pham’s journey to finding a new team has been marked by patience and persistence. Despite holding out throughout the offseason in search of an offer reflective of his value, the 36-year-old outfielder remained steadfast in his pursuit of a playing opportunity.
Last season, Pham showcased his versatility and impact on the field, contributing significantly to the Diamondbacks’ postseason run. With a combined batting average of .256, 16 home runs, and a .774 OPS across 119 games with the New York Mets and Diamondbacks, Pham demonstrated his ability to deliver under pressure.
While Pham’s age may have been a factor in the hesitation from clubs, his performance statistics remain compelling. His efforts were on par with or exceeded those of several younger players who secured lucrative deals in the offseason.
