Charles Barkley and Gayle King’s “King Charles” CNN talk show has come to a conclusion as the primetime talk show has run its course. The show ended after six months and the final episode was announced by the hosts on Thursday.
The show had an average viewership of half a million and lagged behind other programs considering the Wednesday shows. The show was initially announced as a limited series that starred two well-known personalities discussing significant occurrences and developments.
According to USA Today, Kings co-hosts CBS morning program “CBS Mornings” with Nate Burleson and Tony Dokoupil and is also a sports analyst on CBS Sports and TNT’s “Inside the NBA” with Kenny Smith, Shaquille O’Neal, and Ernie Johnson.
The show debuted under new CEO, Mark Thompson, who had made some changes to the programming. The network shared, “King Charles has come to the end of its limited run as we announced when it launched last fall and was a great addition to CNN’s lineup, with the youngest, most affluent, and most diverse P2+ audience in its cable news time period.”
Both King and Barkley shared respectful remarks, considering the conclusion of the show. Barkley mentioned via USA Today, “Gayle, I tell people, you’re the best.”
To which King replied, “I will say this: I have loved working with you and something tells me, Charles, this will not be the last time that we’re working together”. King also thanked the viewers who have been with the show for their appreciation and support.
