Cubs Rising Star Michael Busch Matches Historic Feat With Home Run In Fifth Consecutive Game

It has been just 96 days since Michael Busch signed with the Chicago Cubs and the young infielder is already breaking records for the 147 year old franchise.

Entering Monday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Busch had homered in four consecutive games. A crowd of 24,468 showed up to see if the 26-year-old rising star could do it once again and Busch continued his hot streak with another dinger against Merrill Kelly in his first at bat of the game to guide the Cubs to a slender 3-2 victory.

This was a significant moment in Cubs history with only four other players in the franchise recording home runs in five consecutive games. The first person to achieve the feat was Hack Wilson back in 1928. Since then, Ryne Sandberg, Sammy Sosa and Christopher Morel are the only players to match the achievement.

Busch was a highly touted prospect when the Cubs acquired him from the Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason, but few could have expected this kind of impact from the lefty hitter.

Last season, Busch featured in just 27 games for the Dodgers and slashed .167/.247/.292 over that stretch.

This year, he is off to a scintillating start with six home runs, 17 hits and nine runs in his first 16 games.

The Cubs face the Diamondbacks again on Thursday and baseball fans around the globe will be glued to their screens to see if Michael Busch can become the first ever Cubs player to homer in six consecutive games.
