A constructive and productive offseason sees the Houston Texans enter the 2024 season as realistic contenders in the AFC. Houston has been one of the more active teams over the last couple of months adding veterans like defensive end Danielle Hunter, linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair and running back Joe Mixon to an already talented lineup. The headline signing, however, has to be four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs who adds another potent weapon to the Texans dynamic offense.
Under head coach DeMeco Ryans, the organization went on to win the AFC South for the first time five seasons last year, finishing with an impressive 10-7 record. A significant turnaround considering the Texans finished 3-13 the year prior to Ryans arrival.
Ryans, however, insists he is unfazed by the lofty expectations and hype surrounding the organization.
The expectations on the outside don’t permeate inside our building. For us, when everyone is really striving and putting the work in to be better. And that’s what it’s all about,” said Ryans per NFL.com. “We’re always hunting. Expectations on the outside, whatever they may be, it really doesn’t change who we are.”

The AFC is littered with talented players with the Kansas City Chiefs still the team to beat. The Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals will both be hungry to return to the AFC championship. Despite the competition, Ryans is looking inward and not focused on outside noise. So far, his methods have been working. With a handful of new additions to his roster, Houston remains the team to beat in the AFC South.
