The former four-time NBA All-Star, DeMarcus Cousins has recently expressed doubt about three-time league’s defensive player of the year, Minnesota Timberwolves, superstar, Rudy Gobert. He has shared his remarks against the voters who routinely rank Gobert as one of the top candidates for the award.
Gobert achieving his another defensive player of the year award has high potential however, according to Cousins he has been inconsistent with his performance as he has gotten benched during major moments in the game.
The two-time All-NBA Second Team, Cousins also pointed out the discrepancy between Gobert’s achievements and his performances, mentioning if he is the best defender of the league in the best defensive team then he should not be benched.
DeMarcus Cousins has called out voters who repeatedly vote for Rudy Gobert as MVP, stating that Gobert is ‘not that great defensively’

He mentioned during “All The Smoke” podcast via NBACentral, “You can’t have a potential 4x Defensive Player of the Year who doesn’t finish games. I’m never going to be okay with this. I see things in black and white. If you’re the best defender on the best defensive team, you should never be off the floor. There should never be a scenario where you’re not able to fit into the scheme. That doesn’t make sense. How do we keep awarding this gu who can’t even stay on the floor in the playoffs? This is mind-blowing to me.”
He expressed confusion and questioned the scenario considering his high potential of winning this year’s DPOY award. Gobert not participating in crucial moments was one of the factors picked out by Cousins. The Minnesota Timberwolves will play against the Phoenix Suns in the Playoffs round one game one.
