“I would definitely be super interested” Serena Williams Interested In Investing in WNBA Team As Popularity in Women’s Basketball Skyrockets

After retiring from professional sports, some athletes find themselves lost and without a direction. That, however, does not seem to be the case for legendary tennis star Serena Williams. The 42-year-old has been active as entrepreneur and investor since retiring from tennis in 2022. She has a handful of projects that are keeping her busy and has not set her sights on a new one.

In a recent interview with CNN’s Amanda Davies, Williams was asked about investing in a WNBA team in the near future.

“I absolutely would be (interested). With the right market, I would definitely be super interested in that,” confirmed Williams.

Williams has already invested in NWSL team Angel City FC and golf franchise Los Angeles Golf Club in the TGL and it is very possible a WNBA team could be next on her list.

Women’s basketball is at an all-time high at the moment with the University of Iowa star Caitlin Clark leading the charge. The guard had an incredible year before losing out in the national championship to South Carolina. Despite, missing out on a championship, Clark’s gusto and style attracted a new group of fans to the women’s game with number skyrocketing over the previous months. The championship game versus South Carolina was the most watched women’s college basketball game ever.

Clark is now taking her talents to the WNBA where she was recently drafted as the first overall pick by the Indiana Fever. That has led to an increase in nationally televised games and ticket prices across the league.

“I think women’s sport is having a moment that it always should’ve had,” added Williams. “There is no risk (factor). Women’s sport is exciting, women are exciting to watch.”
