Kobie Turner, the rising star of the Los Angeles Rams, isn’t just making waves on the football field; he’s also hitting all the right notes off the field. During the day, he’s a formidable defensive tackle in the NFL, while by night, he’s a talented musician strumming away on his guitar.
Reggie Roberts, Senior Editor at Overtime Heroics, recently caught up with Turner during the NFL offseason workouts. In his second year in the league, Turner shared insights into his successful rookie season, upcoming plans, and multifaceted interests.

Turner, 24, grew up in suburban Virginia but made his mark at the University of Richmond, earning dual bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and music. He even added a master’s degree from Wake Forest University to his impressive academic resume.
Drafted by the Rams in 2023, Turner had a stellar rookie season. He led all NFL rookie defensive players with 9.0 sacks, earning him accolades like NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month and a spot on the NFL’s All-Rookie Team.

In the interview, Turner discussed his offseason plans, which include a trip to New York City with his fiancé to catch some Broadway shows and a visit to Hawaii. He also shared his experiences conducting a football camp in Mexico, organized by the Rams, where he was impressed by the local kids’ passion for the game.

Think I read where the Rams and the NFL had you spend some time conducting a camp in Mexico. What was that like? : Reggie Roberts, Senior Editor at Overtime Heroics asked

“I was part of this awesome football camp down in Mexico earlier in the offseason. The Rams put it all together and it was absolutely amazing. I was there for a couple days signing autographs, taking pictures, engaging with the kids and playing a ton of flag football. The thing that I liked the most was how much the kids were into the game and how much they knew about American football, the Rams and the NFL. The energy and enthusiasm from the kids was insane.” :Kobie Turner Said

Looking ahead, Turner aims to deepen his understanding of the game and improve his versatility on the field. He draws inspiration from legends like Michael Jordan, emphasizing the importance of staying focused and living in the present moment.
Music is Turner’s refuge off the field, and he enjoys jamming out on his guitar to artists like John Mayer and Noah Kahan. He also recently had the opportunity to perform the national anthem at a Lakers home game, an experience he describes as thrilling yet nerve-wracking.

Regarding his music playlist, Turner’s tastes are eclectic, ranging from indie pop to blues. And if he were a baseball closer, he’d choose energetic tracks like “Go Hard” by Lecrae as his walk-out song.
In the fashion department, Turner points out Quinten Lake and Demarcus Robinson as the best-dressed teammates, with sharp styles rivaling those in GQ magazine profiles.
Throughout the interview, Turner’s philosophy of “trust the process” shines through, emphasizing the value of hard work and dedication in achieving success on and off the field.
