NBA legend Kevin Garnett recently responded to Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards wearing his signature finger sleeve during a game, reminiscing about his own experiences with the accessory.
In a Twitter video, Garnett expressed his surprise and approval upon seeing Edwards donning the finger sleeve. “21 finger. Say word. Ah, that’s what’s up,” Garnett exclaimed, acknowledging the homage paid by the young player.

Garnett then delved into the backstory of the finger sleeve, revealing that it stemmed from a hand injury he sustained during his rookie year.
“I messed my hand up my rookie year,” Garnett explained. “Super freakish about my fingers and started wearing a finger sleeve and ended up wearing it my whole damn near career.”
Despite the injury healing over time, Garnett continued to wear the finger sleeve due to its familiarity and the adjustments he made to his grip on the ball.
“What happened was I kept playing on it, rappers got it, and I got used to it,” Garnett said. “Once you start changing it on how you grip and how you grip, you know what I mean?”
Garnett’s reminiscence provided insight into the finger sleeve’s role in his career and its lasting impact on his game. Edwards’ decision to emulate Garnett’s accessory choice serves as a nod to the NBA icon’s influence and legacy within the basketball community.
