Optimism grows for Kawhi Leonard’s return as Clippers prepare for playoff clash

The Los Angeles Clippers are seeing a glimmer of hope ahead of their first-round playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks, as star player Kawhi Leonard may make his return to the court after receiving a knee injection to address inflammation.

According to reports from The Athletic and Stadium’s Shams Charania, there is “cautious optimism” surrounding Leonard’s availability for Game 1 on Sunday. The injection aims to alleviate discomfort in his knee, potentially paving the way for his participation in the crucial matchup.

The Clippers are expected to list Leonard as questionable for the game, signaling the possibility of his much-anticipated comeback.

Leonard’s absence from the court has been notable since March 31, marking a departure from what has otherwise been his healthiest season since joining the Clippers in 2019.

The knee issue sidelined him following the team’s victory over the Charlotte Hornets on March 31, prompting concerns among fans and analysts about his availability for the playoffs.

This recent setback adds to Leonard’s history of injury woes, including missing significant postseason action in previous years due to a torn ACL and a torn meniscus.

His return to peak performance is crucial for the Clippers’ postseason aspirations, especially considering his impressive regular-season statistics, where he averaged 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game.
