Dayo Odeyingbo, a prominent NFL defender, is not your typical professional athlete. His choice of sports icon recently turned heads.
Overtime Heroics’ very own senior editor, Reggie Roberts, was fortunate to hold an interview with Dayo Odeyingbo.
As the 2024 NFL off-season conditioning program neared, Dayo took some time off his schedule to chat at length about his current favorite professional athlete.
His answer was surprisingly refreshing and reiterated Dayo’s multifaceted persona.
When asked about the pro athlete he’d willingly spend money to watch, Dayo Odeyingbo, the common NFL audience expected his answer to be within the NFL circles.
However, he revealed a completely unexpected response. The phenomenal athlete that has captivated Odeyingbo is the notable Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever’s newest recruit at the WNBA.
Roberts: Who is the one professional athlete that you would pay money to see?
Dayo: The newest member of the WNBA’s Indiana Fever, Caitlin Clark.
In the crucial interview, Odeyingbo also shed light on his aspirations for the 2024 season.
One of his main ambitions is to see the Colts win the AFC South division for the first time since 2014 and secure their place in the NFL playoffs, which they haven’t seen since 2020.
Before he earned fame threading the defensive lines of the NFL, Odeyingbo, originally from Brooklyn, New York, spent a considerable part of his life growing up in Irving, Texas.
He exhibited remarkable skills during his time at Ranchview High School, racking up 108 tackles and 12 sacks throughout his high school career.
In spite of tempting scholarship offers from the likes of Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Purdue, Odeyingbo chose to tread the path less travelled by accepting an offer from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
A decision that evidently shaped his impending journey in professional football. Come 2021, Odeyingbo was drafted in the second round of the NFL by the Indianapolis Colts (54th overall).
Since then, he has emerged as one of the most consistent defenders for the team, clocking up 13.5 sacks, 75 tackles, and compelling three forced fumbles in addition to recovering two himself.
