Ian Rapoport calls out 2024 NFL draft, saying – “I have no earthly idea what’s gonna happen”

The upcoming 2024 NFL Draft is highly-anticipated and as per many reports the No. 1 pick is going to be former USC Trojans superstar quarterback, Heisman Trophy winner, Caleb Williams.

The NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport has recently shared how the draft is mysterious after the first pick and very less can be known about which picks will be coming in and how it will go after the first pick.

Rapoport regarding the draft shared in Front Office Sports podcast and stated considering the major narratives, “This has the chance to be absolutely bonkers. Like drafts are always a little crazy and I think last year was certainly one of the crazier at the top. Because we got the big Texans, we got surprise pick at No. 2 C.J. Stroud then the big trade up at No. 3 and that kind of set things on fire.”

This has a chance to be just like that because everyone knows who is going one, nobody knows who is going two, nobody knows what’s happening at three, no one knows who is trading to four or five, or six, or how many quarterbacks go in the top 10 may be five like, there is just a lot of things that are unsettled and that when you know its going to be really really fun is when going in no one knows anything and whatever trades are gonna happen are gonna happen on the clock not before.”

He further continued, “I think one thing that’s happened over the last like three or four years maybe, is I shouldn’t say one thing its been several things that have sort of converged. Younger more sort of risk happy GM’s who are ok saying like ‘You know what I am gonna make this big trade and if it doesn’t work out I am gonna be ok and I am gonna make another trade’ and finding willing partners are being ok and talking about trades with each other. The salary cap has gone up immensely so players with big contracts can now get traded in a way they couldn’t before.”

All these things are sort of converging and I think for the draft, what that basically means is that you have a lot of younger GM’s and some of the older GM’s too but younger GM’s who are willing to trade, who have the money to do it in a setting where trades and chaos is now expected and highlighted. The draft is the best, its my favorite thing we do every year. I have no earthly idea what’s gonna happen and that’s the way it should be.”

The 2024 NFL Draft will be held from April 25th to 27th around Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza in Detroit, Michigan. This will be the 89th annual meeting of NFL franchises to select the upcoming eligible talents.
