“They are going to try hard to trade Trae Young” Atlanta Hawks Eyeing Potential Trade of Trae Young After Playoff Exit

The Atlanta Hawks 2024 season ended with a loss to the Chicago Bulls in the Play-In game. With the loss, the Hawks will not be moving further in the NBA playoffs and major changes in their roster could be expected.

According to Kurt Helin of NBC Sports via Jason Burgos of Sportsnaut, the Hawks will reportedly "try hard" to move the three time All-Star, guard Trae Young. However, the report further stated that All-Star Dejounte Murray is valued at a higher place because the teams are interested in Murray over Young.

Helin mentioned, "They are going to try hard to trade Trae Young. That’s going to happen. But from people I’ve talked to around the league these calls often go something like this, ‘Trae Young, yea, what would that [trade] look like? By the way, is Dejounte available?’ People in the league just like Dejounte’s game better."

"Where Trae Young doesn’t defend, demands the ball; he scores a lot of points, gets a lot of assists, will bring your offense up — he’s an All-Star [and] borderline All-NBA offensive player — but there’s a sense that you can’t really build a true winner around him. You could with Dejounte. They’ve got to move one of them, it obviously doesn’t work. But it’s going to be interesting to see what they might ultimately have to settle for to move Trae."

  1. Young has two years left on his five-year contract of $215.2 million whereas Murray is starting a four-year $114.1 million contract. Murray has an average of 25.1 points, 9.1 assists, and 5.8 rebounds. The three-time All-Star, Young shows dominance while having defense limitations. However, his offensive floor stretching and ball-passing skills are what makes Young valuable while Murray is a player who can merge well with offensive plays.
