When healthy, Anthony Richardson was phenomenal during his rookie season in 2023. Unfortunately for the Indianapolis Colts quarterback, he managed just four games, 50 completions and 25 rushing attempts before being sidelined against the Tennessee Titans on October 8, 2023. A should injury cost Richardson the remainder of his season (and the Colts any realistic shot at a deep playoff push), put the fanbase did get to witness glimpses of his brilliance on the field.
A healthy Richardson is set to return in 2024 and expectations will be high 21-year-old Florida native to deliver. From the Colts standpoint, the management knows that they have to ensure their star player is kept out of danger.
Per a recent piece from the Indianapolis Star, Colts general manager Chris Ballard opened up about this year’s talented offensive draft class and the strategy in the coming week.
“When you’ve got a young quarterback, you’ve got to protect him,” said Ballard.
Adding some bulk on the offensive line would likely be a priority for an organization that already has their franchise quarterback in place.
The Colts currently hold the no. 15, 46 and 82 picks in the first three rounds of the draft. They hold seven total picks in the draft and the veteran GM is not against the idea of trading down, as he has done in the past.
“I just go off history. The more picks you have, the better chance you have to hit. Now, of course you’re not going to hit on all of them, but it gives you more of a chance,” added Ballard.
