Exclusive: “I think I would have become a chef” Colts DE Dayo Odeyingbo Opens Up About NFL Season Expectations and Off-Field Passions

Indianapolis Colts prominent defensive end, Dayo Odeyingbo, has recently shed light on multiple things revolving around his current journey, ranging from the upcoming NFL season to his off-field passions. 

The First-team All-SEC of 2020, defensive end, Odeyingbo, was engaged in an exclusive interview with Overtime Heroics Senior Editor, Reggie Roberts, just a few days before the offseason training program commenced. 

During the talk, Odeyingbo shed light on what his expectations for the upcoming 2024 NFL season are, including which field he would pursue if he weren’t a professional football player in the illustrious league.

The defensive end is the son of Nigerian immigrants who was born in Brooklyn, New York but grew up in the Dallas suburb of Irving, Texas. He attended Ranchview High School and during the four-year high school period, he posted 108 tackles and 12 sacks. 

Due to his skills and athleticism, Odeyingbo received scholarships from various colleges; however, he went to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Other top colleges from which he received offers were, Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas A&M, and Purdue. 

He entered the NFL Draft in 2021 and was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round as the 54th pick. With the Colts, the defensive end has become one of the best in his field and has become an incredibly reliable player as well. 

Roberts asked him: “ If you were not playing in the NFL, what do you think you would be doing?

To which Odeyingbo replied: “I am a little bit of a foodie, so I think I would have become a chef.”

The defensive end, who takes immense joy in exploring his epicurean and culinary sides, has till now posted 13.5 sacks, 75 total tackles, three forced fumbles, and two recovered fumbles. 

One of the major goals for the Colts in the upcoming season is to win the AFC South Division and make it to the playoffs. Last time, Colts went to the playoffs was in 2020, so the squad will try their best to change the trajectory with the next season.
