Gayle King’s recent comments about the NCAA championship and Caitlin Clark seemed to have irked Stephen Jackson.
Jackson was a tremendous player during his heyday and has done well to transition over to the media sector. The former NBA star had an illustrious career that spanned 14 seasons and saw him represent eight different teams. This week, however, the 46-year-old took it upon himself to go after King for her inappropriate comments to legendary women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley
King was interviewing South Carolina’s national championship winning coach Staley when she made the following comment: “We were all cheering for Iowa, of course, and Caitlin Clark.”
Part of being a great journalist is remaining objective and the comment seemed to put Staley in a awkward position.
“Y’all give her all these passes because she’s Oprah’s friend. I don’t give a f*** whose friend she is,” said Jackson. “But you cannot demean Dawn Staley like that. You’re talking to her about winning the championship, about going undefeated. And you have the nerve to get on there and say, ‘We was rooting for Caitlin Clark and you broke everybody’s hearts.’ Who is we? All the black people I know was rooting for Dawn Staley. We’re all fans of Caitlin Clark, but the way you put it, that s*** was trash.”

Caitlin Clark had an incredible run this year where she helped guide the Iowa Hawkeyes to the championship game where they eventually fell just short to South Carolina. Instead of focusing on a South Carolina’s incredible achievement, where they finished undefeated and won their second in three years, King chose to focus the attention on Clark.
