Paul Skenes, the number one overall pick in the 2023 draft, has dominated so far this season at Triple-A Indianapolis. The young pitcher boasts a scoreless streak across his first four starts, striking out 19 batters.
However, the Pirates are taking a cautious approach. General Manager Ben Cherington has publicly stated their desire to manage Skenes’ workload strategically. Coming off a full college season and some minor league experience in 2023, they want to avoid rushing him to the majors.
Olivia Dunne is Skenes’ biggest supporter. While she hasn’t been able to attend games in person due to safety concerns, she’s been very vocal on social media.
