Major League Baseball games often throw up unexpected twists and turns. One such remarkable episode cropped recently with respect to Yankee’s manager Aaron Boone’s controversial ejection.
What made the scene more enticing was the humorous trolling by Yankee announcers, which added punch to the proceedings.
In what is remembered as a dramatically congested first inning of Monday’s game between the Yankees and A’s, a rather contentious event unfolded.
Home Plate Umpire Hunter Wendelstedt believed that the chatter hailing from disgruntled fans came from the Yankee’s dugout.
This misinterpretation led to an unexpected escalation, resulting in the untimely ejection of the skipper, Aaron Boone.
Come Tuesday, the tables turned with the A’s dugout on the receiving end of an exchanged yell.
A seemingly off-target 0-1 delivery pitching from Yankees’ Marcus Stroman to Oakland’s Esteury Ruiz, deemed by most to be outside the strike zone, was judged as a strike by Home Plate Umpire John Tumpane.
Tumpane’s decision invited animated disagreements from the Oakland dugout, which was unable to contain its discontent, contributing to a rather intriguing interaction.
Tumpane, although unimpressed with the objections raised, did not resort to ejections, choosing instead to sternly reprimand the A’s bench.
The proceedings took a humorous turn when Ryan Ruocco, the announcer donning the Yankees’ nook on the YES Network, made an engaging comparison.
He compared Tumpane’s role in the scenario to Wendelstedt’s from the previous day, quipping, “Was that a Hunter Wendelstedt impression? There’s Hunter didn’t want to take ownership of that yesterday, either.”
"John Tumpane — was that a Hunter Wendelstedt impression?…Was it any of them or was it someone actually in the A's dugout?"
