The Chicago Bears are all but guaranteed to take quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. This isn’t much of a surprise as Williams has been the consensus top prospect for some time. He’s a talented player coming off a dominant college career, winning the Heisman Trophy in 2023 and putting up impressive stats last season as well.
Nevertheless, the intrigue for Bears fans lies in what they’ll do with their other first-round pick, number nine.
With their top pick locked in on Williams, the Bears can use their number nine pick to build a strong team around their new franchise quarterback. This could mean selecting an offensive lineman to protect him, a running back to take pressure off his shoulders, or another weapon at wide receiver to complement existing options like Keenan Allen.
Also, there’s always a chance the Bears will trade their number nine pick. This could depend on the draft. If a highly-rated player the Bears covet falls to them at nine, they might take him. More likely, they could trade down with another team seeking to move up in the draft order, acquiring additional draft picks in the process.
