Dallas Cowboys in Talks to Reunite with Ezekiel Elliott Amid Running Back Shake-Up

The Dallas Cowboys are considering reuniting with running back Ezekiel Elliott, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. Elliott and his agent, Rocky Arceneaux, met with the team on Wednesday to discuss a potential return, although no deal has been reached yet.

Elliott, who will be 29 years old in July, is currently a free agent after spending the 2023 season with the New England Patriots. Despite playing in all 17 games with the Patriots, Elliott saw a decrease in his stats, posting career lows in carries, rushing yards, yards per carry, and rushing touchdowns.

Drafted fourth overall in 2016, Elliott spent the first seven years of his career in Dallas, where he earned three Pro Bowl selections and one First Team All-Pro nod. He ranks third in the Cowboys’ record books for rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, behind legendary players Emmitt Smith and Tony Dorsett.

Last March, the Cowboys released Elliott as a cost-cutting measure. He later joined the Patriots on a one-year deal reportedly worth up to $6 million.

The Cowboys have faced setbacks in their running back department this offseason, notably losing Pro Bowler Tony Pollard to the Tennessee Titans in free agency on a three-year, $24 million deal.
