Astros fans react as Altuve and co. start season with worst record since 1969

The Houston Astros are off to a historically rough start this season, with a 7-19 record. This marks their worst performance through the first 26 games since 1969.

However, the 1969 Astros managed to turn things around and finish the year with an 81-81 record, their best at the time.

In contrast, the modern-day Astros have found success, winning the World Series twice and regularly making playoff appearances. Despite their current struggles, there is still hope for improvement as the season progresses.

The Astros were swept by the Chicago Cubs, earning a spot in their franchise’s history books. Their offense struggled, only scoring one run in the game. With this loss, the Astros have now dropped five games in a row and are 1-8 since April 15. They have been swept four times in eight series this season.

The Astros’ start is comparable to their 1969 season, where they also had a difficult beginning but managed to have a hot streak in the middle of the season.

The modern-day Astros have a strong track record, with World Series wins and consistent playoff appearances. Currently, they rank poorly in run differential and ERA but have the potential for improvement with key players returning from injury.

The Astros now have a 42.5% chance of making the postseason, but their chances may be even slimmer. The expanded playoff format could work in their favor, but they will need several things to go right in order to recover from their historically bad start.

They have a day off before facing the Colorado Rockies in Mexico City.
