NFL Insider Says Minnesota Vikings Could Resist Trading Up With Plenty Of QB Options In 2024 Class

We are hours away from the 2024 draft and NFL teams are scrambling to move up to get their man. In a quarterback heavy draft class, teams are jostling for position to ensure they can get one of the top 6-8 signal-callers on the board.

The Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders are all rumoured to be interested in a quarterback. With USC’s Caleb Williams, LSU’s Jayden Daniels and UNC’s Drake Maye projected to go in the first three picks (according to several mock drafts), team’s would likely have to trade up to the 4th, 5th or 6th slot to ensure their can secure one of the top quarterbacks.

According to a recent piece from Pro Football talk, the Viking are reluctant to trade up and seem content to remain where they are. The team currently holds the no. 11 and no. 23 picks. Instead of giving up valuable draft equity, NFL insider Mike Florio suggests they may be better off waiting it out considering there are numerous options in this class.

The departure of veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons has left a void in the position for the Vikings. The team does have former no. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold on the books and could turn to the free agency market for a backup.

Take away the top three projected quarterbacks and there are still plenty of alternatives for the Viks.

J.J. McCarthy is coming off an exceptional year where he won the national championship with Michigan. Michael Penix Jr. took his Washington side all the way the the national championship and fell just short. Bo Nix finished with an incredible 4,508 passing yards and 45 touchdowns in his final year with the Oregon Ducks. That leaves several options for Viking GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah if he is waiting to wait it out.
