Peter Schrager‘s final mock draft is up on the day of the highly anticipated event and, as expected, it is a quarterback heavy first round.
Like most analysts, Schrager has the Chicago Bears drafting USC’s Caleb Williams with the first overall selection and believes that will be followed by five more quarterbacks going in the next 12 picks.
Schrager’s draft board is a testament to just how talented this 2024 quarterbacks class is. In the history of the NFL Draft, there have only been three occasions where a signal-caller was selected with the first 3 picks. The first time was in 1971 when Jim Plunket, Archie Manning and Dan Pastorini were selected 1, 2 and 3. In 1999, Tim Couch, Donovan McNabb and Akili Smith were selected 1, 2 and 3, respectively and in 2021 Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson and Trey Lance were the first names called.

Many experts expect another 1-2-3 quarterback selection this year but the order various depending on who you consult. Schrager has the dynamic dual-threat quarterback from LSU Jayden Daniels going to the Washington Commanders. The New England Patriots, who currently hold the third pick, would select North Carolina star Drake Maye. The NFL analyst has the Minnesota Viking trading up to secure their franchise quarterback in Michigan’s national championship winner J.J. McCarthy. Oregon’s Bo Nix and Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. are the remaining quarterbacks to go in the first round.
As expected, Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is the first non quarterback off the board, followed by Alabama tackle JC Latham and LSU’s Malik Nabers.
