Wednesday marked a big day for the Detroit Lions after signing offensive tackle Penei Sewell to a four-year, $112 million extension, making him the NFL’s highest-paid offensive lineman.
Sewell at 23 years old secured a four-year contract worth a reported $112 million with $85 million guaranteed, a lucrative 76 percent guarantee, under contract through the 2029 season.

The All-Pro OT is now the highest-paid offensive tackle in the NFL after signing an extension worth $28 million per year. Sewell now surpassed Houston Texans OT Laremy Tunsil as the highest-paid offensive lineman by average annual salary.
Ten offensive linemen are set to make at least $20 million a season. Overthecap.com, which tracks NFL player contracts, listed the top 10 offensive linemen in the league, ranked by average annual salary.
Previously, Texans’ OT Tunsil was the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL, with an average annual salary of $25 million a value of $75 million, and a total guaranteed amount of $60 million. Now Sewell has taken over as the highest paid.
The Giant’s Andrew Thomas is now the third-highest-paid offensive tackle in the league after a five-year, $117.5 million deal in July 2023. He also received $67 million in full guarantees.
49ers Trent Williams also has a six-year deal worth $138.06 million, valued at an average salary of $23.5 million per year, secured back in March 2021.
The list of top ten OTs to make an average of $20 million a season is followed by Eagles Jordan Mailata with an average of $22 million, and Landon Dickerson at $21 million.
Next on the list is Falcons OL Chris Lindstrom at $20.5 million average per year, Eagles OL Lane Johnson at $20.1 million per year, Dion Dawkins of Buffalo Bills at $20.02 million, and lastly at $20 million are Robert Hunt, Quenton Nelson: $20 million and Chiefs OL Jawaan Taylor.
