The Philadelphia Eagles have bolstered their secondary with the addition of cornerback Cooper DeJean in the 2024 NFL Draft. Making a move on Day 2, the Eagles traded up to secure DeJean with the 40th overall pick from Iowa. However, the pick didn’t escape criticism, as NFL Network’s Rich Eisen seemingly took a jab at Eagles GM Howie Roseman over the team’s struggles in the secondary during the disappointing 2023 season.

DeJean joins Quinyon Mitchell as the Eagles’ second cornerback selection in the draft, highlighting the team’s focus on shoring up their defensive backfield. Notably, DeJean could potentially break barriers as the NFL’s first white cornerback to regularly start since Jason Sehorn’s retirement in 2003.

Addressing questions about his position, DeJean expressed readiness to step onto the field and contribute wherever needed. The 21-year-old standout declared for the draft after a successful college career at Iowa, where he earned All-American honors in 2023 and showcased his playmaking ability with seven interceptions overall.

The Eagles’ 2023 season ended in disappointment with a lopsided loss to the Buccaneers in the wild-card round, capping off a tumultuous campaign for the former NFC Champions. Despite a strong start, the Eagles faltered down the stretch, losing five of their last six games before their postseason exit.
