Head Coach Mike McDaniel, known for his winning strategies, recently gave a strong hint that the Miami Dolphins have some exciting changes on the cards after they traded up to snag Jaylen Wright.
The 120th overall pick at the Combine, Wright boasts a stunning 4.38-second 40-yard dash record, suggesting a bright future for the Dolphins’ running back lineup.
Wright, who made his mark by averaging 7.4 yards per carry in 2023, gained an impressive total of 1,013 yards from just 137 carries in a mere 12 games.
This significant addition arguably brings a renewed strength to the Dolphins’ runing backs. Last year, Miami’s Mostert clocked the team’s highest with 1,012 yards.
Achane was not far behind with an additional 800. Then there was a considerable gap to Wilson, with just 188. Yet, the inclusion of Wright onto the roster is set to shake up these statistics.
Wright’s inclusion undoubtedly makes the Dolphins’ running back lineup more competitive. Coach McDaniel, in recent comments, underlined this point:
“The competition is fierce… I’m fired up because we have a group of competitors that will satisfy the thirst for them.” It will be fierce. Depth comes into question each and every year, so you’re always looking for a full roster.”

Notably, McDaniel also stressed the essence of every player showing supreme urgency to do right with the ball if you deserve to have it.
“I think all players benefit,” coach Mike McDaniel told reporters on Saturday. There’s supreme urgency to do right with the ball if you deserve to have it. Yeah, the competition is fierce.”
This comment also reflects McDaniel’s strategic focus on the competitive spirit among the players, which he strongly believes promotes optimal performance.
