The Minnesota Vikings, after making three trade picks with the New York Jets, were able to select one of the top-notch quarterbacks, J.J. McCarthy, as the tenth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, another area of concern for the Vikings now is three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Justin Jefferson and his future with the team.
The general manager of the Minnesota Vikings, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah appears to be optimistic regarding Jefferson and believes that his deal may be completed sooner. He shared, as per ESPN, "We continue to have great dialogue with their representatives. The process is still ongoing. We did say, ‘Hey, [let"s pause] a couple days." The draft"s coming. They have players they represent. We have our process."
Jefferson missed more than five weeks during the last campaign as he had suffered a hamstring injury and in Week 14 against the Las Vegas Raiders, he suffered a chest injury. Even with sustaining injuries, the prominent wide receiver recorded 1,074 yards, including 68 receptions, and five touchdowns.
Till now, the NFL Offensive Player of the Year of 2022, has posted 392 receptions, 5,899 receiving yards, and 30 receiving touchdowns. Adofo-Mensah intends to reach the deal because the Falcons understand how significant the wide receiver is to their lineup.
He further mentioned, while expressing the value of Jefferson and that he receives the positive attention he completely deserves, "Either way, whenever we sign him, we want Justin to have his whole week. You know that friend that has a birthday that takes the month? I think Justin would deserve his whole month if we signed a contract to celebrate it. We"re excited to work towards it. We"re going to keep going. You can"t have all these plans when you talk about all these visions and not talk about the king linchpin, so we"re going to keep working toward that end goal."
After this season, Jefferson will enter free agency so, with a novel contract, his future could be secured with the squad and once again, the Vikings could look forward to the 2024 NFL season and beyond with their rejuvenated lineup.
