Denver Broncos GM George Paton Praises New Defensive Lineman John Franklin-Myers’ “Relentless Motor”

The Denver Broncos focused mostly on their offensive needs in the 2024 NFL Draft with two wide receivers, a running back and an offensive lineman selected as Sean Payton looks to rebuild his attack. They are now balancing that out by bringing in some important pieces on the defensive side.

The Broncos recently traded a 2026 sixth-round pick to the New York Jets for lineman John Franklin-Myers. The highly rated defensive end has reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with the organization and general manager George Paton understands he will be a vital piece for Denver’s defense.

“He is a player that we have always respected. He is durable. For three straight years he has not missed a game, and four straight years of 54-plus pressures,” said Paton per Pro Football Talk. “The one thing that sticks out on tape is the relentless motor this guy plays with. We are excited to get him. He is going to help our defensive line.”

Franklin-Myers was part of a resilient and stingy Jets defense in 2023 that ranked second in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game (168.3) and third in total yards allowed per game (292.3).

The 27-year-old edge rusher started all 17 games last season and finished with 3.5 sacks, 33 tackles and six tackles for loss. If he can match those types of numbers with the Broncos, it wont be long before he firmly establishes himself as a fan favorite in Denver.
