“Money and other opportunities, they’re just not bigger than relationships,” Eagles Quinyon Mitchell Rewarded For Turning Down Lucrative NIL Offers And Remaining With Toledo

The NIL (name, image and likeness) rules that have been implemented are completely changing the landscape of college football and the NFL. Player now have the ability to profit off themselves instead of playing for free, as was previously the case. Players who historically were angling to break into the NFL, are now willing to remain at the college level for longer periods.

Cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, who spent four years at the University of Toledo, was recently drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles and spoke about the opportunities that were presented to him over the last few year. There were apparently several top universities willing to offer big deals to secure the talented defensive back. Mitchell, however, chose an environment where he could grow and prosper over financial gain.

“Money and other opportunities, they’re just not bigger than relationships,” said Mitchell per Pro Football Talk.

Mitchell is rarity. Many players in this day and age are bouncing around universities to ensure they receive the best possible benefits. Mitchell should be commended for his decision to remain with Toledo.

“The relationships I had at Toledo were so strong. That’s why I stayed. I love those guys, I love everybody in the organization. It’s just the relationships,” added Mitchell.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Quinyon Mitchell in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, which all but ensures that he is in line for a big bones and a lucrative contract in the near future.
