“This is the guy” Broncos GM Confirms Sean Payton Knew Early On That Bo Nix Was The Pick for Denver

It was no secret the Denver Broncos were looking for a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft but their decision to select Oregon’s Bo Nix with the 12th overall pick definitely surprised a few people.

Nix was part of a long list of signal-callers to come out of this highly talented class. There were six quarterbacks selected in the first round and despite his experience and talent, many experts had Bo Nix dropping out of the first round. The Broncos, however, and particularly head coach Sean Payton, saw something special in the 24-year-old.

After five seasons at the collegiate level, Nix is one of the more seasoned quarterback prospects. Payton and general manager George Paton both believe he is already capable of making an impact at the higher level.

“We feel like he’ll be more game-ready than if we were going to draft a 21-year-old,” said Paton per a recent piece from NFL.com.

Paton also went on to say that Payton had no doubts about the pick after spending some time with the young man.

“He really liked him, and then we went to the private workout and spent three hours with Bo in the meeting setting, and he was outstanding. And we go out to the field, and he made 10, 15 throws, and Sean came up to me and said, ‘This is the guy.'”

Nix started his college career with Auburn before transferring to Oregon. Over five seasons, he threw for over 15,000 yards and and 113 touchdowns. He is regarded by many analysts as one of this classes most accurate throwers.
