On Monday night, Charles Barkley made sure to clarify his comments on the city of Galveston, Texas, which landed terribly wrong.
The latest in the Charles Barkley-Galveston saga.
"I had a great time in the local hangouts when we played there… You just can't go to the beach… Everybody was great to me in Galveston. But your beach was dirty as hell!"🏀🏖️😂 https://t.co/EFV0Xa6cyy pic.twitter.com/kK8Qp2TzFx

Appearing on TNT’s NBA Tip-Off show Monday night, Barkley went to address the issue in the latest saga, even though he sticks to his “dirty beaches” stance. He said on the show,
“I had a great time in the local hangouts when we played there … You just can’t go to the beach. Everybody was great to me in Galveston. But your beach was dirty as hell!”
His TNT colleagues made sure to point out a tweet Monday from a Galveston resident that showed Barkley in a local bike shop, smiling and holding a bike.
Per the tweet,
“This is Barkley enjoying the bike shop in Galveston. I guess it wasn’t so bad.”
The Barkley-Galveston saga began on Saturday’s TNT post-game show after his comment on the Pelicans, saying, should be punished this off-season by sending them to Galveston. He commented earlier,
“Galveston — that dirty a** water. We’re sending they a** to Galveston, Texas, right where that dirty water washed up on the beach. They can’t even get in, no water.”
His words echoed my critics including music superstar Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles, leading Barkley to apologize on-air to her on Sunday.
Even inviting a response from Galveston city council member David Collins, he told Houston Public Media,
“Mr. Barkley used the phrase dirty water washed up on the beach. If anyone understands being washed up, it would be Mr. Barkley.”
