EXCLUSIVE: “I went to school for sports science” Carolina Panthers Center Austin Corbett Opens Up About Future Plans

The Carolina Panthers will start the 2024 season with a new head coach and offensive coordinator and we can expect to see several changes as they look to bounce back in 2024. One man that will stay put is offensive lineman Austin Corbett who will have a major role to play in rebuilding this offense.

Corbett played as a tackle during his college days and has been used as a guard in the NFL but was recently moved to center by the Panthers. The 28-year-old has an extremely close relationship with second-year quarterback Bryce Young and the move to center should help both Young and Corbett flourish under a new system.

At the University of Nevada, Corbett was a standout lineman and started 48 consecutive games over a four year stint. Along with his exceptional abilities on the field, the Nevada native was also a hard-working student. In a recent exclusive interview with Overtime Heroics Senior Editor Reggie Roberts, Corbett discussed his passion for sports science and his career plans after retiring from the game.

OH:  “There is a rumor out there that you were once considering medical school. Could that be in your future once your NFL career is complete?”

AC: “In the past year with all of the rehab I have been doing and looking at all of the sports science of returning to play stuff, I’ve been thinking about either PT (physical therapy school) or getting my strength coach certification. I’ve been deeply involved in that. I went to school for sports science, and so I might as well get some letters behind my name.”

Despite a successful spell in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams where he has started 62 games, Corbett remains humble and level headed. Those traits will be vital as he takes on more responsibility next year and looks to guide a young quarterback through a difficult division.
