The Kansas City Chiefs have rewarded star tight end Travis Kelce with a bump in salary and will hope he will help the team to an historic three successive Superbowl wins.
Kelce will earn $17 million this year and $17.5 million next year.
Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach said, "every now and then you have one of these guys that are outliers" and that Kelce looks like he’s "28 years old".
Good news for Chiefs fans, who are expecting another exceptional Kelce season, laced with touchdowns, Taylor Swift appearances and another ring.
"The odds of someone playing this far into the thirties are very low, but it does happen, and it happens with just unicorns in the profession, and Travis is one of those and we’ll certainly celebrate this with him and hopefully we can ride this thing even longer," Veach told Adam Teicher of ESPN.com.
"So, we’ll just have to wait and see. But I’ve seen no signs of [Kelce] slowing down and everyone notices the kind of postseason he had, and he just found that extra gear and these special ones, these special players are always able to find that extra gear. If anybody could do it, Travis can."
Kelce has a top-notch regular season but hit top form in the playoffs going for 32 catches and 355 yards.
He is definitely a clutch player, and the Chiefs will need their stars to perform as they chase the threepeat and their fourth title in six years.
