The four-time Pro Bowl and Super Bowl champion cornerback, Chris Harris, who last played with the New Orleans Saints in the 2022 season, has announced his retirement from the professional football league, the NFL.
Harris went undrafted in 2011 and then joined the Denver Broncos, with whom he played from 2011 to 2019. He then joined the Los Angeles Chargers and with them, he played from 2020 to 2021.
In 2022, the cornerback stated that he would wait to join another Super Bowl contending team but he did not receive any calls from the teams. Harris told Denver Gazette’s Chris Tomasson that he is retiring from the NFL.
He mentioned, “I was able to accomplish pretty much everything. The only award I didn’t win was Defensive Player of the Year. Getting All-Decade was the top thing. I feel definitely blessed, especially coming in as undrafted. I pretty much had to fight through all my career and being able to overcome that, that’s one thing I’m definitely happy for.”
Harris ended his career with 621 total tackles, 6 sacks, 97 pass deflections, 22 interceptions, 7 forced fumbles, and 4 defensive touchdowns. Regarding his current decision, Harris shared, “I just waited a year and I stayed in shape, but I realized that everybody was pretty much moving on with the younger players, the younger wave. So I thought it would be great to just call it an end.”
Last season, Harris did not play with any team and worked in media and stated that he will look forward to working in media. However, he did not elaborate on what kind of role he would take on, he mentioned as per the report, “I’ve got to kind of figure out what’s going to be the best fit, whether it’s TV analyst, whether it’s play-by-play, whether it’s radio. I’m just figuring out the best place for me. I have opportunities and I’m just weighing the options.”
In 2016, he was named to First-team All-Pro, and was also the two-time Second-team All-Pro. He spent most seasons playing with the Broncos and has also started Chris Harris Jr. Foundation which supports children in need.
