EXCLUSIVE: “I want to be known as one of those guys who never gave up,” – Steelers nose tackle Keeanu Benton is complex yet single-minded and he tells Overtime Heroics how his work ethic drives him

The Pittsburgh Steelers will look for a deep playoff run and the form of key players such as Keeanu Benton will be crucial.

The starting nose tackle plays hard, fast and with high energy, making him a fitting example of a master of his field.

Speaking to Overtime Heroics Senior Editor Reggie Roberts, Benton outlined his burning desire.

“I want to be known as one of those guys who never gave up, who started from the bottom and ended up in one of those gold jackets.”

The second year Steeler is a fan of teleportation and Bob Marley, and that juxtaposition of hyper speed and relaxed intensity epitomizes his game style.

“Big strong guy. Really active. Good hands,” said Steelers defensive coordinator Teryl Austin. “For a big guy, you will see him venture outside the box, chasing things down. He’s got a good motor. You can see he’s in really good shape when he plays. He plays a lot of snaps. He is an 80-85% guy. He keeps himself in really good shape, really competitive spirit.”

The edge rusher is one of six Wisconsin Badgers in the team including new quarterback Russell Wilson and legendary pass rusher/linebacker T.J. Watt, who enters the 2024 season needing 3.5 sacks for 100 for his career.

Steelers guard Nate Herbig, another Wisconsin alumni had nothing but good things to say about his former College teammate.

“Keeanu was a beast, man. He was unblockable,” said Herbig. “I thought he was the best player in the 2023 Draft, to be honest.”

Benton was also a world class wrestler at Janesville Craig High School compiling a mark of 127-8 over three varsity seasons.

What else can he do, well go fish.

Literally go fish.

“I fish all the time. Bass. Pan fish. Blue gills. Perch,” said Benton. “Caught some walleyes. Really good eats.”

He and the rest of the Badgers will be looking for more than fish as the Steelers look for a playoff run and a championship title.
