Tyrese Maxey had a game for the ages on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden to cement his place in NBA folklore. The 23-year-old year old was outstanding in the 112-106 overtime must-win game for the Philadelphia 76ers to ensure his teams chances of a championship remained alive.
Any fan watching their first basketball game would have thought Maxey was the go to player for the 76ers after a series of clutch shots late in the game. While reigning MVP Joel Embiid remains the team’s star player, Maxey is making a case to be the alpha on this roster.
NBA insider Bobby Marks was so impressed with Maxey’s heroics that he went on the claim the rising star is the actual face of this franchise.
“I think he’s the face of the franchise. I don’t think it’s Joel Embiid. I think Maxey is more reliable,” said Marks.

Maxey finished the night with 46 points, 9 assists and 5 rebounds to guide Philadelphia to a historic win. He had a key four-point play late in the game and his game-tying three-pointer with seconds left secured overtime for a Philly team that looked dead and buried.
Based on productivity, Joel Embiid remains the star player on this 76ers lineup. It is important to note that the center has struggled with injuries this season and looks extremely fatigued after putting in big minutes over the last few weeks.
The 76ers trail the playoff series 3-2 and if they hope to have any chance of a fight back, both Maxey and Embiid will have to be at their best for game 6 in Philadelphia.
