NBA Nears Doubling of Media Rights Fees in Upcoming TV Deal Negotiations, Potentially Reaching $6 Billion

The NBA is currently moving in the direction to secure its next media rights deal, which could result in a significant rise in rights fees during the process, as per Front Office Sports.

The league is paid $2.7 billion by Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery annually to air the games on ESPN and TNT Sports. However, as per the report, no new deal has yet been signed but the league could probably make its value double considering the new deals.

As per Front Office Sports, “The NBA makes about $2.7 billion per year allowing ESPN and TNT to broadcast its games.

But with the way negotiations for new deals are reportedly going, the league could be on track to double its current annual media rights money to over $6 billion.”

According to Wall Street Journal via FOS, NBC is willing to offer $2.5 billion, whereas Disney will be renewing “for an average of roughly $2.6 billion per year”. The league might be working on a new deal with corporation giant, Amazon, but no deals have yet been made known.

It could be stated as per the report that Amazon would pay “well over $5.4 billion” making the value twofold and it could even go as high as $6 billion. With the increasing turbulence in the current media landscape, considering the sports department, if such deals are completed with the league, it would be a noteworthy development for the NBA and its success as well.
