The Miami Heat postseason run came to an end with Boston Celtics emerging victorious in the Playoffs Round 1 series. Now, for the Heat, attention shifts to offseason trades, drafts, and existing contracts.
According to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler is expected to be on the lookout for a two-year maximum extension ahead of the offseason. He stated, as per Heat Nation, “Jimmy Butler, who turns 35 on Sept. 14, is expected to seek a maximum two-year contract extension worth about $113 million from the Heat this offseason, according to a league source.”
Butler, after playing with the Philadelphia 76ers, joined the Heat in 2019. He is under contract currently for the 2024-2025 season and also has a player option for the next season. However, with the deal, Butler is pushing forward to guarantee himself a worthy deal with the squad.
Chiang further wrote, “This two-year max extension would include salaries of $54.3 million for the 2025-26 season (nearly a $2 million increase from the player option in Butler’s current contract for that season) and $58.6 million for the 2026-2027 season when Butler will be 37 years old. Those numbers could fluctuate based on where the NBA’s salary cap is set for those seasons.”

Butler is one of the players who had a significant impact at the core of Heat squad and his influence on the lineup is undeniable. He was sidelined due to a sprained MCL suffered against the Philadelphia 76ers in the Play-In Tournament.
The report further read, “But the expectation is Butler and his camp will push for that extension before the start of the upcoming season. Choosing not to offer this exact extension this offseason could lead to a disgruntled Butler.”
During his five seasons, the league’s Most Improved Player of 2015, and Steals Leader of 2021, guided the franchise to NBA Finals twice. The Heat also went to the Eastern Conference Finals three times with him. Butler averaged 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists during the 2023-2024 NBA season.
