McCarthy is the fifth quarterback chosen in this year’s draft, following Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and Michael Penix Jr.
This pick represents the highest Minnesota has ever drafted a quarterback, surpassing Daunte Culpepper at No. 11 in 1999.
McCarthy was named the Big Ten Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year after an impressive 2023 season, where he led the Wolverines to a national championship and recorded 2,991 passing yards, 22 passing touchdowns, and three rushing touchdowns.
