FOX Sports radio host Doug Gottlieb got more than he bargained for when he posted on social media that too much is being made of the achievements of Caitlin Clark.
Gottlieb had the temerity to suggest that Clark’s all-time NCAA points scoring record is diminished because it was scores in women’s basketball.
Sharing a tweet showing Clark in a shooting position the now maligned host tagged longtime scout Mike Procopio commenting, “The amount of work it takes to be consistent through her mechanical flaw is really impressive. If you were advising her, would you fix it in the offseason?”
The responses were as vocal as an Iowa home crowd, and he must have felt a twinge of regret.
“Caitlin Clark scored 3,321 more points than Doug Gottleib in college,” read a fiery comment to the offending tweet.
Another was biting and witty, “After you’re done teaching Caitlin Clark how to shoot a basketball maybe you can teach Taylor swift how to write a song or give Simone Biles a tumbling lesson.”
While he stumbled down the rabbit hole there was a smattering of support from Gottlieb. “I really don’t understand why he’s taking heat for this. It is a mechanical flaw. Shooting coaches would never teach this approach. It is even more miraculous that she is so incredibly consistent with her stroke despite the cross-body form.”
Clark broke Pete Maravich’s all-time scoring record, that is a fact, and there is nothing Gottlieb or other critics can erase.
Clark is a bona fide college legend and that is why the X family was going all out, mostly in attack of his sweeping statement.
