The New York Jets Pro Bowl linebacker Jermaine Johnson II will be spearheading his next NFL season with his former Florida State teammate recently acquired by the Jets.
The former quarterback of the Florida State Seminoles, Jordan Travis, was selected by the Jets in the 2024 NFL Draft in the fifth round as the 171st pick. Under Jets veteran quarterbacks Super Bowl champions Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor, Jordan will be able to widen his on-field prowess.
Travis, whose name was included in twenty semifinalists considered for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, suffered a season-ending injury when Seminoles were playing against North Alabama, which, as a result, diminished his national championship winning plans.
Johnson II and Jordan both played together for a year, as Johnson later declared himself for the draft in 2022. Johnson expressed confidence in Travis’ abilities and put forward his word to the head coach Robert Saleh regarding the quarterback.
According to NFL Network, Johnson II stated, "I mean just knowing [him], I texted coach Saleh and I was just like, ‘Dude, we need Jordan Travis," like, we need him, it"s a perfect situation for us, perfect situation for him."
The First-team All-American 2021, Johnson II also mentioned that he has seen the capability of Jordan and that he is "still healing up at an awesome rate" as he has seen his videos. The linebacker continues to be in touch with Jordan while uplifting his spirits.
Johnson II, considering how much Jordan will learn from the icon quarterbacks, continued, "He gets to sit behind Tyrod and Aaron and learn from Tyrod"s perspective and Aaron"s perspective, and then also I mean they have a killer quarterback just in the stable learning from those guys. So it"s good for everybody and I just thought it was perfect for both sides, so why not, and sure enough when the opportunity came around they grabbed him."
Travis, after fully recovering, is anticipated to be the third backup quarterback after Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor. However, as per the report, he is expected to recover from his injury by training camp.
