The Chicago Bears were the squad that was highly anticipated to draft the No. 1 overall pick even before the 2024 NFL Draft took place. With the draft, the Bears went with their first pick, selecting Caleb Williams, subsequently locking up their years with the Heisman Trophy winning superstar quarterback.
The other significant pick for the Bears was standing at No. 9, and the organization knew who they wanted to pick at that spot. Ryan Poles, the general manager of the Bears, has recently shed light on what the thought process of the team was when they were considering the No. 9 pick.
"Rome Odunze was at the top of our list and there's certain guys you don't pass on..
He's one of them and there was never a thought of moving" ~ Ryan Poles #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/yNmxVruyi2

He mentioned that during one of the episodes of ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show”, Poles stated via CBS Sports, “Rome was at the top of our list. We have our draft board kind of separated by different colors, and there’s certain guys you don’t pass up on. And Rome’s one of them. It’s hard to find a guy that is that big and that talented at the receiver spot and on top of that being an unbelievable human being, as well. So, there was no moving off Rome at all.”
The wide receiver, Rome Odunze, who played for the Washington Huskies football team, was Consensus All-American last year and also two-time First-Team All-Pac-12. With the Bears, he will join the top-notch wide receivers; the six-time Pro Bowl Keenan Allen and 2017’s Richter-Howard Receiver of the Year recipient, DJ Moore.
