Per Andrew Greif of the Los Angeles Times, the Clippers had guaranteed the final, 2024-25 season of Lue’s current contract last off-season.
Wojnarowski said on Friday’s ESPN’s NBA Today.
“The Clippers are determined to do a long-term deal with Ty Lue. I’m told they want him to be their coach for a very long time. That’s a conversation that will happen after the playoffs are over, but they love the job he did this season, they love the job that he’s done there.”
Coach Lue brings an 184-134 regular-season record and heading into Game 6 of the first round with a 13-16 mark in the postseason.
He also has led the Clippers to 51 wins this season, tied for the most victories as a head coach, the same number during the 2016-17 season with LeBron James and the Cavaliers.
The Clippers head coach secured the Western Conference Coach of the Month honors for December and January. He has also won an NBA championship as Cleveland’s coach in 2016, is 312-217 (.590) overall in the regular season and 52-33 (.612) in the playoffs.
The Clippers as of now are trailing the Dallas Mavericks 3-2 in the Western Conference first-round playoff series, with Game 6 set for Friday.
