The Cleveland Browns invested heavily in Deshaun Watson with the hopes that the CFP National Champion could be the team’s franchise quarterback for years to come. A hefty five-year, $230 million contract has yielded little return for an organization that has struggled to make a deep playoff run over the last three decades. With the quarterback finally healthy to start the season, there are high hopes he can deliver in 2024.
When healthy ,Watson is considered one of the game’s premier quarterbacks. Since making his debut with the Houston Texans in 2017, the dual-threat quarterback has 16,756 passing yards and 118 passing touchdowns to his name. Browns fans will be hoping he can once again reach those previous highs.
Per a recent piece from NFL.com, Browns general manager Andrew Berry spoke with Pat McAfee about Watson’s fitness and the high expectations the Browns have for their offense.
“We feel very good about the transition. He is in a good spot mentally and physically. Obviously, he’s been rehabbing the shoulder injury, but he is well on his way there and in a really strong spot,” said Berry. “We do expect to hit the ground running on that side of the ball, and I know he is very excited about returning to the playing field and getting over this injury. We do have high expectations for him and the offense this season.”

Since joining Cleveland, Watson’s time on the field has been limited due to a off-field issues and injuries. He has managed just 12 games for the organization in 2022 and 2023 and recorded 2217 passing yards and 14 touchdowns.
With some stellar weapons like Amari Cooper and Jerry Jeudy on the roster, the time is now for Watson to prove his worth for an organization that took a chance on him.
