New York Jets fifth-round pick rookie QB Jordan Travis is optimistic and hopes to return soon, as he prepares to be Aaron Rodgers’s successor in the future. The two quarterbacks will bring a mix of contrasting personalities to the Jets QB room as Travis, will look to imbibe as much as he can from the veteran QB.

The Jets drafted Travis with the first of three picks in the fifth round, i.e., 171 overall, underscoring his long-term potential. He probably will be waiting for a shot this season, but he thinks he can be a starter in the NFL.

Travis spoke on Saturday at the Jets’ rookie minicamp,

“One hundred percent, Yes, sir, I do think about that a lot. But right now, I’m just focused on where my feet are, just getting healthy and getting everybody around me better, being a great teammate.”

Per reports, Travis is recovering from the leg injury that ended his 2023 season, his college career at Florida State ended with a broken leg in November.

He hopes to return around July and August to action, and acknowledged that the idea of succeeding 40-year-old Rodgers has been in his thoughts.

Travis is expected to be the No. 3 QB behind Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor once he’s cleared to return from the broken leg.

Coach Robert Saleh has not mince words and said he views Travis as “a ball of clay” with exciting potential who needs to polish his throwing mechanics and footwork.

“I think he hasn’t even scratched the surface. He was winning games, and doing things that were just pure athleticism. If we could tie in the football part to it, I think we’ve got ourselves a pretty damn good football player.”

As of now, the plan is for Travis to learn under Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor who influenced Baker Mayfield and Justin Herbert as rookies, and complete his return.
