The Roast of Tom Brady was harsh and went balls to the wall in laying it all on the line.
There actually was no line and this was summed up in a brutal series of jokes by Tony Hinchcliff.
These included:
“Tom Brady, why do you look like a gay Tom Brady?”
“Sam Jay, everybody, killed. An obese, African-American lesbian, so by having her, Netflix checked off a lot of boxes. She is a black lesbo, which means she doesn’t eat pussy, she ‘Aw, hell gnaws’ on it.”
“Bert Kreischer is a king. He looks like if the Tiger King and the Liver King only ate Burger King and had a liver that looked like Martin Luther King got beat up by Rodney King.
But the one that had everyone talking and even accusing him of misogyny was a take in a bit done by Ron Burgundy of Anchorman, talking about a whale’s vagina.
“A whale’s vagina, which reminds me, Kim Kardashian’s here. She’s had a lot of black men celebrating her endzone,” Hinchcliffe began, before directly addressing the Keep Up With The Kardashians star.
“Kim, word of advice, close your legs,” he said. “You have more public beef than Kendrick and Drake.”
There was nothing off limits and Hinchcliff may have pushed hard, but it was a Roast, and it was hardly the Oscar awards.
But one social media post summed up the tenuous link between comedy gold and ousing the envelope.
“S*** shaming women in front of a crowd of people and making women the butt of a joke for absolutely no reason is so disrespectful,” wrote one viewer, as another added: “And what’s the punchline… misogyny?”
“That’s a pretty low blow, even for a roast,” added another. “S***shaming and misogyny isn’t funny at all.”
