Gilbert Arenas criticizes Rudy Gobert for missing playoff game for child’s birth

Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas sparked controversy with his recent comments criticizing Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert for missing a playoff game due to the birth of his child. Arenas’ remarks, made during a podcast, have drawn strong reactions from fans and fellow players alike.

“It’s a baby bro, it’s gonna be there when you get back,” Arenas remarked dismissively during the podcast, questioning Gobert’s decision to prioritize his family over playoff obligations.

Arenas’ comments, delivered in a casual and somewhat flippant manner, raised eyebrows among basketball enthusiasts, many of whom expressed disbelief at his insensitivity towards Gobert’s personal life.

“I would imagine Minnesota. I don’t know for sure. I’m not in that man’s business like that, okay? I mean, missing this game for that baby. I see you,” continued Arenas, further adding to the contentious nature of his remarks.

While some may view Arenas’ comments as playful banter, others have condemned his lack of empathy towards Gobert’s situation. The birth of a child is widely regarded as a significant and joyous occasion, prompting many to question Arenas’ perspective on fatherhood and family values.

“The baby gonna be there when you get back. We hope, right? I mean. No, I’m just saying the baby gonna be unnecessary. The baby gonna. It don’t know. Whatever you about to think you about to do with the baby. He gonna be asleep. Need that skin to skin contact. Okay? Need your skin to skin in two days. Right on the titty the whole time. Right on the titties. Need some milk,” continued Arenas, displaying a lack of understanding of the importance of bonding with a newborn child.

While it is not uncommon for professional athletes to face criticism for their decisions on and off the court, Arenas’ comments have struck a nerve with many who view fatherhood as a sacred and non-negotiable responsibility.
