The squad has ongoing plans to retire Allen’s jersey during the 2024-2025 season, as reported by the Memphis Commercial Appeal. The three-time NBA All-Defensive First Team, Allen, who was famously known by his moniker, “The Grindfather” mentioned, “Yeah, they told me next year I’m going to get my jersey retired.”
During Allen’s seven seasons with the squad, the squad made the playoffs and in 2013, they went to the Western Conference Finals. The Grizzlies organization was planning to retire his jersey in 2021-2022 season but it was derailed by the icon himself as he was tending to his legal matters.
A documentary will be followed as well which will chronicle Allen’s growing up time in Chicago. The documentary will be released around his jersey retirement ceremony, however, a date is not yet known. Allen also mentions, “I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully, I have a box of tissue with me.”
The Big 12 Player of the Year, Big 12 Tournament MVP, and First-team All-Big 12 of 2004, Tony Allen concluded his career with 6,654 points, 2,884 rebounds, and 1,158 steals.
