Pat Riley, the president of the Miami Heat, expressed concern over Tyler Herro’s recent injury and his missed playing time.
Riley commented on Herro’s fragility and his limited appearance in only 40 games this season. He suggested that Herro could benefit from making nutritional adjustments and improving his overall health.

Riley also criticized the NBA’s new rule requiring players to compete in a minimum of 65 games to be eligible for postseason awards. He believed this rule sends the wrong message and encourages players to sit out even when they are not fully healthy.
In response to Jimmy Butler’s remarks about his potential impact if he were healthy during the playoffs, Riley questioned Butler’s seriousness and advised him to remain silent if he is not actively playing.
Butler suffered an injury in the first quarter of a game against the Philadelphia 76ers and struggled afterwards, resulting in the Heat’s loss.
Riley discussed Herro’s season and recognized his work ethic while acknowledging his injuries. He emphasized the need for Herro to become stronger and better equipped to handle tough defenses that target him.
Riley dismissed Udonis Haslem’s suggestion that Herro should be a sixth man and reiterated that Herro is a starter.
Riley also provided an update on Terry Rozier’s neck injury, mentioning that Rozier is wearing a neck brace and following proper recovery procedures. Riley expressed confidence that Rozier’s injury will heal over time.
Regarding Erik Spoelstra’s contract extension, Riley praised Spoelstra’s coaching skills and acknowledged the stability he brings to the organization.
He stated that players observe the development and success of players under Spoelstra’s guidance, leading to career opportunities.
Riley addressed concerns about Herro’s injuries, criticized the new NBA rule, responded to Butler’s comments and Haslem’s opinions, and offered updates on Rozier’s injury and Spoelstra’s contract extension.
