In the recent years, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals have built a strong rivalry, one that resonates strongly with Bengals’ Quarterback Joe Burrow.
Two consecutive AFC Championship Games held against the Chiefs has given Burrow a unique perspective on the Chiefs’ team dynamics and skills.
Sidelined by a severe wrist injury in 2023 that ended his season prematurely, Burrow was unable to lead the Bengals into a third battle with the Chiefs.
Reflecting on previous games, he was full of praise for the Chiefs during a recent press conference. When posed a question about the Chiefs, Burrow didn’t hesitate to attribute much of their success to their rock-solid defense, labeling it as “one of the best in the league.”
He admired the functionality and strategy behind their defensive line-ups that have been instrumental in their on-field victories.
In the same breath, Burrow lauded the “great players” on the Chiefs’ offensive side that included the well-known faces of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, coupled with their substantially well-furnished offensive line and playmakers.
Given their back-to-back world championship victories, Burrow described the Chiefs as a gold standard team, a team that other franchises, including the Bengals, are working to surpass.
While acknowledging the Chiefs’ accomplishments, Burrow did not shy away from expressing his desire to unseat the champions. With confidence he stated, “Everybody’s chasing them. Somebody’s got to knock them off, I’m hoping it’s us.”
